Most betting sites featured Yan as a slight -130 favorite odds favorite (Wager £130 to win £100). Sterling was set as a minor underdog at an almost even +110 betting underdog (Bet £100 to win £110).

Sterling started fast and imposed a frantic pace on the feet, though it was soon evident he was unable to penetrate Yan’s potent defense. By the 3rd round, Sterling was visibly tiring and failed on numerous takedown attempts against the cage. On the other hand, it was the champion who delivered a takedown with a timely clinch trip.

Pressing on despite limited success Sterling ran out of gas, a fact that bizarrely led to him winning the Bantamweight title in a major upset. The fight was so one sided the live odds on a few fight betting sites shifted to a ridiculous -10000 betting line. That’s right, barely one pound for a £100 bet. A sterling bet now seemed to be a profitable one at +1900 (Wager £100 to win £1900) but it was increasingly clear he was losing and badly fading.
