History and Trajectory leading up to UFC 257
In their first fight, McGregor was the favorite and won by TKO 1:46 into the very first round with a ferocious attack of punches and hammer fists.
This fight earned “the Notorious” his first main event in the UFC. McGregor went on to dominate Dennis Siver, Chad Mendes and Win the Title from Jose Aldo with a lightning fast KO. Later he become the first simultaneous two division UFC Champion and even challenged the great Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match.
While McGregor enjoyed superstardom, Proirier cut his teeth in the UFC’s lightweight division, losing to Michael Johnson, he did win a few in a row to get himself back on track. Proirier has hit a stride as of late with stellar performances, winning exciting battles and mad wars with Eddie Alvarez (Twice), Justin Gaetjhe, Eddie Alvarez and Max Holloway (to win the Interim UFC Lightweight title) a loss followed to Khabib Nurmagomedov where he was a huge underdog is understandable in hindsight as Khabib dommination continued.
Poirier bounced back with another exciting back and forth war with Dan Hooker, winning a unanimous decision.
Connor McGregors last fight, a 40 seconds destruction of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone so he comes in with a lot of momentum, the bookies sure believe so.
