The former Bellator MMA champion has long been considered the top lightweight fighter outside of the UFC, with many questions surfacing to just how well he will fare fighting for the biggest MMA organization in the world. The odds listed Chandler as a small underdog mainly due to his lack of Octagon time as he showed premiere MMA skills throughout his career. His opponent was a dangerous striker with high level and main event experience.

The fight was uneventful until it was, after a feeling out process Chandler charged with a body punch hook combination which melted Hooker on the spot. The tough NZ native tried to survive but after a brief moment of grappling for position he wound up on the bottom eating unanswered strikes. Just like that we have a new contender in the UFC lightweight division. Would anyone consider Michael Chandler an underdog against any top UFC lightweight not named Khabib Nurmagomedov?
